This visa allows you to stay in Australia to study full-time in a recognized education institution.
Eligibility
Before you apply for this visa, you must have:
- been accepted to study full-time at an educational institution in Australia
- You must be enrolled in a course of study that is registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and courses for Overseas for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
Financial capacity
You need to have enough money that is available to you, to pay for your course fees, and travel and living costs for you and your accompanying family members while you are in Australia. You may need to provide evidence of your financial capacity with your visa application.
English proficiency:
It is mandatory to provide evidence of English language skills with the visa application or when asked by the visa officer.
Genuine temporary entrant:
The genuine temporary entrant (GTE) applies to all student applicants. It is test to ensure that the student’s intention is to stay in Australia temporarily. The key judgment the department makes in granting a student visa is whether the applicant is a genuine temporary entrant. That is, they are coming to Australia for genuine study purposes and have a realistic prospect of returning home once their studies have finished.
Some factors that the department considers as part of the GTE requirement include:
- the circumstances in the applicant’s home country
- the applicant’s potential circumstances in Australia
- the applicant’s immigration history
- the value of the course to the applicant’s future
Health :
You must meet the health requirements. You may be required to undergo a health examination as part of the visa application process
Character requirements
Everyone who wants to enter Australia must be of good character and will be assessed against the character requirements.
Health Insurance:
You must have adequate health insurance while in Australia. You must obtain the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which provides hospital and medical insurance.
